12 CRPF personnel injured in accident

IMPHAL, April 6: Atleast 12 CRPF personnel including a civil driver on polling duty were injured when the bus carrying them felt into a gorge near Khudengthabi about 15 km away from Moreh border town this afternoon around 4.30 pm.

Sources said that injured CRPF personnel belonged to the 143 Battalion CRPF head quarter Lamphel (B-company).

Altogether 80 CRPF were heading towards Moreh in a bus and a truck for election duty for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. On reaching Khudengthabi a private truck carrying firewood lose control while scaling a steep slope thereby knocking the Bus carrying the CRPF down a gorge about 80 feet injuring 11 CRPF and one civilian driver.

The driver has been identified as one Hidam Nanao Meitei, 25 years, son of H Tomba of Lairen Sajik while the injured CRPF personnel have been identified as one ASI, Md Shah, Havildar Rabinson, Havildar Azad Singh Chauhan, Constable Raja Badir, Constable Birendra Singh, Constable Sadasivapati, constable Pramod Singh, constable Kattimani, constable PK Ekka, constable MG Singh and constable Mohite Jaydeep.

The injured were hospitalised at the Moreh Hospital and some of the patients who were said to be in condition were rushed to Imphal.

Soon after receiving the information the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Moreh, Robert Ksh, IAS personally visited the injured at Moreh Hospital.

Sources further informed that the CRPF were deputed for Area Domination in Moreh prior to the ensuing Lok Sabha election for the outer constituency scheduled to be held on April 4.
