24 hour bandh affects Thoubal

IMPHAL, April 2: The twenty four hour bandh called JAC in connection with the death of Monika Devi who was married to a man of Thoubal Bamon Leirak from Thoubal Khunou was concluded on the evening of Wednesday.

The bandh has affected the normal business of the Thoubal market and its surrounding area. Shops were remained closed and public vehicles were not plying on the road.

In the morning, the bandh supporters were blocking the road stretch of the area at Thoubal Bridge following which the police commandos dispersed them by firing tear gas and smoke bombs and security personnel remained alerted all day in order to avoid unwanted occurrence of incident in the area.

Meanwhile, in support of the bandh, the shops of the Wangjing bazaar was also remained closed and also blocked the road stretch of the national highway of the area. However, police came on the spot and communicated with bandh to lift the bandh in view of the visit of election observers in the state who are travelling across the state including district headquarters of the hill districts.
