327 hyper sensitive polling state

IMPHAL, April 7: At the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha election, at least 327 polling stations have been identified as hyper-sensitive and all polling stations in Ukhrul and Chingai Assembly constituencies have been deployed with heavy security for the first phase poll on April 9. This was stated by chief election officer of Manipur O Nabakishore.

According to the CEO of Manipur, another 797 polling stations have been identified as sensitive and 282 polling stations as normal.

In a press meet in his chamber on Monday, he said that every hyper-sensitive and sensitive polling station will be deployed with ten armed security personnel.

206 companies of security personnel will be deployed in the outer constituency. 79 companies of Central Para-Military forces and 159 companies of armed personnel along with state forces and 47 companies of unarmed security personnel will be deployed.

“38 polling parties have been dispersed for their destinations on April 5 to the far-flung areas in Churachandpur.  On March 6, 67 polling parties left for their polling stations and 292 polling parties left today and 1009 polling parties will leave tomorrow,” he added.

He said that polling officials of two polling stations will reach by boat to Jiribam.

All the polling parties are going through by surface transport with EVMs. But, they will be airlifted while collecting the EVMs. EVMs of 166 polling stations will be collected by airlifting. We have arranged 25 helipads for airlifting through four helicopters on April 10 2014, he added.

He said that an MI-17 helicopter is parked at the Imphal Airport ready for emergency or casualty evacuation from Sunday. The helicopters are used only for collecting EVMs and all the collected EVMs will be kept in 11 strong rooms at various concerned DC and ADC office.
