ADC, Ukhrul protests bomb threat on CEO

UKHRUL, April 24: Strongly condemning the bomb threat on CEO, ADC Leiyaphy Rita, staff members of ADC Ukhrul on Thursday staged a sit-in protest in front of the ADC hq office at Mini Secretariat complex.

Sources from ADC Ukhrul informed that the protest demonstration was organized to denounce yesterday`s incident wherein a hand grenade was found placed outside the entrance of CEO Leiyaphy Rita`s residence at Phungreitang West. The grenade however failed to explode.

Meanwhile, demonstrators have appealed to all concerned not to repeat such terrorizing act on innocent civilians and called for promoting peaceful atmosphere in the town.

Sources further said that the device wrapped in a brown envelop was first noticed by a family member after he unknowingly pushed it down to the roadside while opening the gate around 5 am. He ignored it without suspecting any danger.

Later at around 11 am when shopkeepers nearby noticed two youth drop the same device at another point around the CEO`s residence they alarmed the locals. Thereafter, a man who identified himself to be a VDF personnel came and identified the thing to be a hand grenade and took it away before the police arrived at the scene, sources added.

No group has claimed responsibility and the motive behind the grenade threat could not be established till the filing of this report.

The protestors numbering around 30 led by ADC DIs held placards reading “stop bomb culture,” “bomb attack hampers development,” “we want peace” etc. as they gathered in front of ADC Ukhrul office from 11 am till 4 pm today.

Meanwhile, ADC Ukhrul is organizing another sit in on April 25 here to intensify their protest against bomb culture which is terrorising the innocent public.
