Angered mob dismantles woman`s house for poisoning child

IMPHAL, April 18: Angered over an incident of a woman poisoning a three and a half year old leading to the infant’s death at the hospital, locals of Toubul have dismantled the house of the accused today.

Three and half year old Thokchom Max alias Abungo son of Premeshor of Toubul Ward no II was poisoned by next door neighbor Maibam Nungshi, 32, wife of Angangcha on Thursday morning around 7.30, claimed a family member of the infant at the hospital today.

He said Maibam Nungshi and her husband Angangcha have surrendered to the Bishnupur police.

Nungshi had called the victim child and his elder sister who were playing outside their gate in the morning and offered the children some rotis.

While, the victim’s sister and others ate on their own, Nungshi herself fed the victim, said the family member and added that soon after about five minutes, Max started crying and vomiting and his temperature increased.

Following which, his elder sister brought home Max and was rushed to the Bishnupur Community Health Centre, he said.

During treatment, the boy’s skin turned black and was referred to the RIMS, he said.

The family decided to take the boy to Shija hospital but he died at the hospital around half past midnight today.

Meanwhile, during a public meeting held at MICO Bazar, Toubul, the locals had decided to pressure the government to award the culprits with life imprisonment and never to allow Maibam Nungshi and her husband Angangcha reside in the locality.

The locals further demanded the government to provide proper compensation to the bereaved family.

It was also decided that unless the demands are met with, the locals will not accept the dead body.

Meanwhile, post mortem was conducted at RIMS mortuary in the presence of a duty magistrate with full video coverage.
