IMPHAL, April 15: The Congress today continued its tirade against the BJP by branding the party as sectarian.

Addressing an election rally yesterday at UMO ground Yairipok, the chief minister had asked the people against voting for the BJP while branding the party as sectarian and a party who favours a particular religion.

The election campaign was organised by 7 Andro Block Congress Committee.

Noting that election is the most important process in a democratic nation, Ibobi said that as a democratic nation the people have every right to choose their own candidate.

The chief minister expressed his full confidence of winning the inner parliamentary seat by over 2 lakhs votes before adding that BJP or CPI will be in the second place.

While blaming that it was only during the reign of the BJP that India has witnessed major problems, he said reflecting Ramjanma Bhumi issue in its (BJP) national manifesto has further threatened the tranquillity of the nation.

The chief minister also branded the CPI as an opportunist, and said that CPI had gained while in alliance with the Congress party in the state.

He further opined the after realising the true colour of the CPI of being a party who delivers only lip service, the public taught them a good lesson during the 10th Assembly election.

The CPI will meet the same fate of CPI/CPI (M) in Bengal, Kerela whose political journeys have met their ends, he said.

Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, in his speech likened the BJP to a “demon” and appealed to the public to stay away from the party.

He said that the election this time is a battle between two groups, on one hand a group that totally disregards secularism and practices favourtism and nepotism, and adopting exclusive policy.

On the other hand, a group which considers itself as a servant of the public, respect secular and adopts inclusive policy, he said.

The BJP and its like-minded groups fall under the first category while the Congress falls under the second category, he added.

Claiming that since its formation, the Congress has worked for equality, welfare of the people, Gaikhangam maintained that unlike other parties, the Congress has become stronger and stable as it grow older.

The order of leadership distribution with chief minister belonging to Meitei community, MPCC president held by tribal and a muslim Rajya Sabha MP, itself clearly explained the principle of ‘equality’ of the congress, continued Gaikhangam.

Blowing its own trumpet, Gaikhangam held that the congress have brought a sea change during its 12 years tenure unlike other parties who have ruled the state.
