IMPHAL, April 4: Armed miscreants claiming to be NSCN-IM reportedly vandalised the office of BJP office Ukhrul situated at Gandhi Chawk, Phungreitang besides threatening the workers of dire consequences.

Sources informed that the incident occurred around 9 am. Around five armed miscreants barged in the BJP office identifying themselves as members of the NSCN-IM.

The armed persons allegedly tore campaign materials of the BJP and vandalised properties. Moreover, the miscreants warned them to close the office and support NPF before leaving the place, added the sources.

Soon after receiving the information IFP contacted the SDPO of Ukhrul, who informed that the concerned police station has not received any official complaint in connection with the incident till the filing of this report.

The incident comes barely two days after the abduction of former Minister Dr Khasim Ruivah and his son Asung Ruivah, on April 2 by NSCN-IM suspect.

However they were reportedly released the same night around 8.15 pm.

Khasim ruivah is the BJP campaign advisor for the ensuing LS poll, along with his son Asung Ruivah.

The reason for the abduction/detention could not be confirmed immediately.

It has been speculated that the incident might be related with the ensuing Parliamentary elections.

He reportedly joined the BJP recently and campaigned for BJP candidate of the Outer Manipur seat Prof Gangmumei Kamei.

Khasim Ruivah was also elected in 2007 Assembly election as an Independent candidate backed by the United Naga Council (UNC) from Chingai Assembly Constituency of Ukhrul district.
