87859 voters in 1256 PS to decide fate of 8 candidates

IMPHAL, April 15: All campaigning for candidates for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat concluded this afternoon at 4pm, said chief electoral officer, Manipur O Nabakishore today.

He said with the conclusion of the election campaign, candidates are asked to stay at their respective constituencies.

Briefing media persons, he had said that as per the ECI norm, no star campaigner is allowed to stay at any constituency except in their own.

Altogether 87859 voters will exercise their franchise at 1256 polling stations to decide the fate of eight candidates who are in the fray for the seat.

According to the chief electoral officer, Manipur O Nabakishore the constituency has 415314 male and 437755 female voters.

Briefing media persons this afternoon, Oinam Nabakishore said there are 2290 service voters which is 1808 male and 482 female voters in service outside the state in military, defence service, etc.

78 polling stations have been identified as hyper sensitive, 832 polling stations as sensitive and 346 as normal polling stations, Oinam Nabakishore said.

He further mentioned that today a meeting was conveyed at the conference hall of SP Imphal East Police head quarter for deployment of security personnel at various places for the LS poll. The meeting were also attended by DCs, general observers, and discussed issues like the security deployment etc.

The meeting also discussed the number of security companies to be used for the poll.

He said as per a record from LM Khoute ADGP, there are 136 armed companies, 47 unarmed companies and 68 companies of central paramilitary force to be used for the poll and 11 companies have already been deployed to guard the strong room where EVMs of Outer constituency poll are being kept.

He added that this time 75 polling stations will be webcasted flying squads, surveillance teams and security will check any untoward incident taking place around the polling stations.

During the last LS poll there was complain from various organisation that some individual or groups to the people disturbed public who were in queue line for cast vote, he added.
