Cong misdeeds will be highlighted: Left and Secular Alliance

IMPHAL, April 27: The Left and Secular Alliance Manipur – a conglomeration of 11 political parties convened a Sensitization Meeting at Manipur Press Club.

Speaking at the meeting, CPI candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constitution of the 16th Lok Sabha Election, Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh elaborated that the meeting aims to sensitise the public on the various misdeeds committed by the INC in the just concluded Lok Sabha election and also to highlight about the steps to be taken up by the party along with other political parties against the INC candidate.

Expressing his concern on the alleged wrong doings committed by the INC and its candidate during the election, he said the matter is very serious and will be highlighted further before the Election Commission of India and demand disqualification of the INC candidate.

He further informed the gathering that he along with representatives of other political parties will leave Imphal on Monday for New Delhi to lodge a complaint with the ECI on the issue.

Dr Nara also condemned the undemocratic activities committed by Congress party during the election which amounts to violation of the election code of conduct, and added that a poll which crossed 90 percent polled percentage cannot be free and fair, as such a huge voter turn-out could have been possible due to the use of various unfair means.

He further stated that if the election had been free and fair, then the percentage of voting would not have crossed 70-75 poll percentage.

Out of the 39 polling stations in Thoubal A/C, poll percentage in 26 polling stations had crossed 95 percent while 112 polling stations crossed 90 percent poll out of the total 1256 polling stations, Nara maintained.

He further asserted that after returning from Delhi he will take up necessary steps to avail water to the public and also appealed to the public to co-operate in giving a lesson to the government which he termed as a failed, corrupted and insecure government.

During the meeting, the state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sarat Salam averred that there are many handbooks which instruct the polling officials and also Returning Officers to ensure the free and fair conduct of the election and to punish anyone violating the election code of conduct, however, these rules have remained only in the handbooks.

BSP state president N Kabita Devi, Forward Block State secretary Kh Gyaneshor, JD(S) working president Manihar Goswami, RSP state secretary N Ratan, Shiv Sena state organizer S Samungou, Left and Secular Alliance convener Kshetrimayum Santa, CPI Election Committee chairman, ex minister N Mangi Singh attended the meeting as presidium members.
