Guv inaugurates JNMDA jubilee in VP`s absence

IMPHAL, April 2: The Diamond Jubilee celebration of the JNMDA was inaugurated by the Governor of Manipur VK Duggal on Wednesday at  the JNMDA Auditorium.  The Vice-President of India M Hamid Ansari couldn’t come due to some unavoidable circumstances.

The Manipur Governor also the chairman of JNMDA, and Sangeet Natak Akademi chairperson Leela Samson were the chief guest and president during the inauguration.

During the celebration, a souvenir and commemorative volume of the Diamond Jubilee were also released. Ten eminent Gurus/ Dancers / Scholars were presented with Diamond Jubilee Special Honours. They are Guru Ningombam Ibobi Singh, Guru Yumnam Jatra Singh, Guru Shrimati Ngangbi Devi, Guru Laishram Ibohal Macha Singh, Guru Khangembam Mangi Singh, Dr Kapila Vatsyayan, Shrimati Devjani Chaliha, Guru RK Singhajit Singh, Guru Ngariyanbam Kerani Singh and Kumari Darshana Jhaveri.

Gold Medals and certificates were presented to four students: Konjenbam Monika Devi, Khuraijam Bimota Devi, Shamulailatpam Janeshwor Sharma and Sangeeta Thokchom.

In his welcome address, chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi Leela Samson said that after she became the chairperson of the academy many state has celebrated their golden jubilees or diamond jubilees.

Continuing that as part of the celebration, the constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Manipur is also celebrating the diamond jubilee, she said that this is all because of the great  thinkers who have made it possible.

“An artist needs sacrifices and hard work to attain  perfection in preformance arts. The form and philosophy of the art form are well reflected by the teachers”

She appealed the JNMDA teachers to help the students in all the fields of Kala Sanskrit.

Expressing pleasure at inaugurating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Manipur’s Governor VK Duggal said that culture is the unique selling point of Manipur and people outside the state identity it with its richness in art, culture and excellence in sports.

He also said that it was quite heartening to know that the tradition of Guru-Shishya relationship is still continuing in the academy.
