Health minister acts tough against irregular staff

Instructs Moreh MO to suspend two staff

IMPHAL, April 25: Health minister Phungzathang Tonsing instructed the Officer in Charge of the Moreh police station to lodge an FIR against the two employees of the Primary Health Centre Moreh who had been absent from their duty since December last year and for illegally occupying two rooms of the PHC.

The minister later informed the concerned MO to suspend the two staff for being irregular for more than three months.

In his first official inspection tour of the border town Moreh PHC since taking charge of the Health portfolio, Phungzathang Tonsing was accompanied by D K Korungthang MLA Tengnoupal AC, Sohail Aktar principal secretary Health Service Manipur, O Ibomcha Singh NRHM director, Loukhosei Zou chairman ADC Chandel and other high ranking officials of the Health department.

The minister was shocked on seeing the conditions of the labour room and another room locked from the outside at the PHC.

When inquired, the minister was told that pharmacist of the PHC, Kh Dhaneshori Devi of Uripok Polem Leikai had been occupying the two rooms as her bedroom and kitchen.

The MO of the PHC, told the minister that Dhaneshori and an ANM nurse Usharani have been frequently absent from their duties since December last year.

He further informed the minister that the duo had been already served with show cause notices, but both have failed to acknowledge it.

Soon after, the minister instructed the OC Moreh police to file an FIR against the two employees and take up the necessary actions.

He further instructed the MO to suspend the two.

On his way to the border town, the minister and his entourage had earlier inspected the Tengnoupal PHC and Moreh Hospital.

He was also dissatisfied with the condition of the Tengnoupal PHC and the staff quarters.

The ceilings of the PHC were also cracked and portions of it had already started to fall down.

The minister also witnessed that the PHC had no proper bed and mattresses and not a single water storage tank.

Lamenting the neglect and condition of the PHC, he observed that even a wild animal would not consider getting treatment at the PHC.

He further instructed his officials to vacant the present PHC and make proposal for its reconstruction.

The minister also instructed for the dismantling of the illegal structures and encroachers inside the PHC compound, and further assured to provide an ambulance and install a water storage tank at the earliest.

The minister had also inspected the present condition of the Operation Theatre, labour rooms and different wards and equipment of the Moreh Hospital.

He had instructed the concerned officials to get repaired the non-functioning equipment of the hospital.

The minister and his team further held an official meeting with the staff and other local representative of the sub-division at the hospital.

The local representatives aired their grievances regarding the officials to the minister.

A locals complained that the doctors and nurses are irregular, and sometimes due to their absence, patients had to rushed to hospitals at Imphal.

He complained there are certain staff who have never been seen at the hospital.

Phungzathang also instructed the concerned officials to make the operation theatre of the hospital functional as soon as possible and for total renovation and proper fencing of the hospital complex for the security of the staff so that 24×7 service facility will be provided to the people of the border town.

He also appealed all the staff of the hospital to work with honesty and dedication for the betterment of the society.
