IMPHAL, April 27: Alleging foul play in the death of 32 year old Kharibam (o) Shandhyarani wife of K Dinesh of Thongju part 2 Khongnangkhong, who reportedly committed suicide yesterday, a group of protestors including family members of the deceased this afternoon stormed the Singjamei Police station demanding proper investigation in the case.
The protestors who had converged near the police station’s gate, had also assaulted a person identified to be the brother in law of the deceased, younger brother of her husband K Dinesh.
Later in the evening protestors also reportedly stormed the residence of K Dinesh and partially damaged the house. However, timely intervention of the police had prevented the occurrence of any ugly incident.
A family source of the deceased, disclosed that last night at around 10.30 pm the deceased’s younger sister, who is married and settled at Moreh, received a phone call from K Dinesh informing that Shandhyarani was suffering from suffocation after eating pan.
Contradictory to the information, a few minutes later she reportedly received another phone call from the deceased’s 8 year old daughter informing that her mother had hung herself to death. But the phone call got disconnected suddenly, said the source.
On receiving the news the parental family went to Sadhyarani’s place only to be found that her last ritual was already performed around 6.30 am without giving any information to them or either informing the police.
Shandhyarani’s husband and father in law, who are the main suspects, have both remain untraceable.
