Man found dead in front of friend`s house

IMPHAL, April 11: In a gruesome incident, a 51 year old was found dead with head injuries suspected to be made by a hard object at the gate of his friend’s residence at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak under Porompat Police Station on Friday early morning.

The dead has been identified as Athokpam Ranbir, 51 son of late Ghanashyam of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.

People from the deceased’s locality held an emergency meeting at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Makha Leirak Community Hall and passed a resolution to demand for the arrest of Takhellabam Loken who had called out the deceased.

Speaking to the media persons, a local said Athokpam Ranbir is survived by a son and a daughter.

Ranbir was an amin at the SDC Keirao Bitra and had returned from election duty on Wednesday.

On the night of Thursday around 9.30 pm, Ranbir was called out by the accused Takhellabam Loken, 51, son of late Neta of Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak.

Further according to the local, Ranbir accompanied Loken to his home at Yonglan Leirak and failed to return home ever since.

Ranbir’s son went to the residence of the accused Loken this morning and found his father lying with a injuries on his head and body at the gate of the accused surrounded by the morning walkers.

After hearing about the incident, the locals of the deceased rushed to the spot and found bloodstain at various places up to the residence of the accused Loken.

Loken has been absconding, said locals. It is also learnt that the mother and sister of the accused have been picked up by a police team for questioning, added the local.  

Later on, the dead body was picked up by a team of Porompat police after full inquest of the spot by a team of forensic expert, the local source said.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting at the Ningthem pukhrimapal area passed a resolution to boycott Loken and their family members.

On the other hand, the post mortem of the dead body was conducted on Friday at JNIMS Morgue in presence of a duty magistrate with full video coverage and re-deposited in the JNIMS Morgue as the family members and JAC have expressed that they will not claim the dead body until and unless police arrest the accused persons and added they suspected that other might also involve in the brutal killing of Ranbir.
