IMPHAL, April 5: Militant suspects ambushed a Road Opening Party team of 1/11 Gurkha Regiment at Zou Khunou located in between border pillar 45 and 48, bordering Myanmar in Churachandpur district today.
Sources said that the incident took place around 4.30 pm about 40 km east of Singhat Police station. The militant suspects used sophisticated weapons including mortars during the ambush, informed the sources.
It has been informed that the security team also retaliated to the firing resulting in heavy exchange of firing for several minutes.
However no casualties have been reported from both sides till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, according to a PRO IGAR (S) statement, troops of 24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under IGAR (South) recovered an IED on April 5, 2014 near Kampang Khullen village.
The Assam Rifles team on spotting the IED immediately cordoned off the area and called a team of Bomb Disposal Squad to destroy the IED on the spot, it said.
