Militants suspected killed in encounter

IMPHAL, April 12: Two suspected militants were killed in an alleged encounter with troops of the 44 Assam Rifles today at around 12.30 pm at Chatrik Nampisha under Phunyar Police station under Ukhrul district.

According to a reliable source, the encounter took place between suspected underground militants and the 44 Assam rifle in the interior part of the district at Chatrik Village someone Kilometres away from Phunyar Sub division.  

Sources further mention that when a team of 44 Assam Rifle was on foot patrol in the Chatrik Village area, the team was fired upon by the suspected militants.

The AR team retaliated and a gun fight continued for about 10 minutes. At the end of the gun fight, the security team found bodies of two militants along with two AK 47 rifles and two magazines.

It may be mentioned that similar gun fights had occurred between the 44 AR and militant outfits on April 6 and 8 under Kamjong Police Station. A personnel of the AR was injured in the later gun fight.
