Mob demolishes residence of accused in April 10 murder case

IMPHAL April 20: Angry locals of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Makha Leirak today set ablaze the house of Takellambam Loken 51 son of (L) Nelo of Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak who is still absconding after being accused of killing his friend Athokpam Ranbir.

A Ranbir alias Ngo, 51, son of (L) Ghanashyam of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukri Mapal Makha Leirak was found dead at the residential gate of the accused early morning of 11 April after he was called out from his residence the night before by Loken.

Councillor of Ward No 20, Imphal Municipal Council, L Tombi said that she had accompanied several woman leaders of the JAC formed in connection with the crime and called on the local MLA E Chand at his private residence today in the afternoon to urge him to pressure the government to arrest the accused at the earliest.

She continued that they had gone to the MLA’s residence on getting information that the mother and sister of the accused had been released after being put in police custody for seven days.

She said even as the team was talking with the MLA, several other angry locals had come out and after dismantling the house set it on fire around 3.30pm.

Soon fire tenders of the Manipur Fire Service arrived and put off the fire. Meanwhile, a team of the Imphal East police led by Husne Jamal ASP (Law and Order) and Singhajit ASP Operation also arrived and controlled the angry locals from further carrying out further damage.
