NCP pitches candidate using AFSPA issue

IMPHAL,April 2: C Doungel is the most experienced candidate in the coming Lok Sabha election comparing to other parties’ candidates.  He is one of the few MLAs to be elected for four consecutive terms and has been a senior cabinet minister thrice and held the post of the finance minister twice during the finances of the state were best maintained.

This was stated by the spokesman and NCP general secretary Narendra Verma during a press conference in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at the office of Nationalist Congress Party, Manipur state unit at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, Imphal.

He added that protection should be given to north east people who stay outside the region for their higher studies and jobs in New Delhi or other parts of the country  and mentioned that a highway protection force should be established , AFSPA removed, the territorial integrity of Manipur maintained and such issues will be taken seriously by NCP if C Doungel is elected.

Briefing the media, he said that every political party has the right to grow and expand its base and that’s why NCP is in alliance with Congress in Gujarat and Maharastra but not in Manipur.

Adding that UPA-1 and 2 has lot of unfinished work, he urged the people to give a chance to UPA to come to power at the center and complete its unfinished business. If UPA-3 comes to power than C Doungel will obtain more power if elected.

He further appealed to the people to vote for C Doungel in the interest of Manipur.

NCP state unit’s president MLA L Ibomcha said that the NCP is a national political party but takes more importance on local-based issues. He added that he is going to complain to the election commission against Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for violating the constitution and for spreading anti-communal rhetoric.

He mentioned the 13 points in their manifesto which included separate land laws for the hill areas of Manipur, no ‘special status’ for the Naga-inhabited areas within the country, protection of Manipur’s territorial integrity at any cost, reconstitution of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, restoration of lost territories of Manipur in the Indo-Myanmar border areas, re-introduction of Inner line permit system on the existing pattern as in the state of Sikkim, withdrawal of the disturbed area status under armed forces (special powers) act, 1958 throughout the territories of Manipur, dealing firmly with the harassment to people of north eastern states in the capital city of Delhi and other parts of India so that persons involved in such criminal acts be given exemplary deterrent punishment, protection of National Highways by a well established dedicated force, development of tourism in the state, declaration of Jiribam as a full-fledged district, inclusion of Manipuri in the currency notes, restoration of 2%w
ater royalty tax earlier levied by the state government from the Loktak Project authority.

The NCP has promised to mount pressure on the union government /LDA for restoration of the levy by increasing it upto 5%.
