New Checkon dwellers to give way to government quarters

IMPHAL, April 4: The State Government has initiated steps for acquisition of a huge residential area at New Checkon.

According to an official order by the State Planning department issued on March 21 last, land is to be acquired for development of a secure government housing colony at Sanjenthong area.

The planned housing colony is to be used by officers and public servants of the State. In the regard, the joint director of Planning department Y Indramani has intimated the secretary of the Revenue department to take necessary steps for acquiring the residential land.

The Revenue department is to measure the entire government and public land area bounded by the Imphal river bank on the western side and the New Checkon road on the eastern side, the Konung Mamang road on the southern side and tribal colony on the northern side.

The department has been ordered to prepare a revenue sketch map with the details of the patta/dagchitha of the respective areas.

After the measurement is conducted, the department has also been ordered to notify the area as Government Colony under relevant sections of the Land Acquisition Act. A joint team of officials of the Revenue department, PWD, PDA and IFCD are also to be deputed to conduct site verification and further to prepare a map for the proposed colony.

The order is scheduled to be completed within March 30 last so that necessary action for development of the secured housing colony, Sanjenthong can be expedited at the earliest. The order is carried out with the approval of the chief minister, according to the order document.

It may be mentioned that the area to be acquired for construction of the housing colony will displace families in thousands inclusive of various private and government offices, schools, hospitals, business institutions, media house.
