`New Checkon eviction order violates code of conduct`

IMPHAL, April 7: The Congress government’s order for eviction of seven areas of Wangkhei assembly constituency for establishment of government quarters is in violation of the election code of conduct. This was stated by CPI L Sotinkumar.

In a press meet at the Irabot Bhawan on Monday, he said that the planning department has issued an order for eviction of the land in March 21 and to enforce the eviction of the seven public inhabited areas within March 30 which is totally violative of the election code of conduct.

Expressing solidarity to the people of Namdailong, Namthangpung, Mission land, Maring Land, Chashad Avenue, Pureiromba Leikai and Nongpok Ingkhol, he said that all the people in the area have their own Pattas and are staying there for the last 50 years. CPI will stand against the government policy for the cause of the people.

“The ruling Congress government and the Chief Minister offer grand feasts along with liquors at the time of elections to people at the quarters of MLAs and ministers. Such practice also violates the code conduct.”

He alleged that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has instructed Panchayat members to campaign for the Congress party offering the release of Panchayat Raj funds after the elections. The elected representatives were called to his Bungalow on April 1 and 2.

He said that the CPI has complained to the ECI to look into the postal ballot papers of service personnel like Police, Manipur Rifle, VDF and other paramilitary forces.

He mentioned that we have 2229 service voters in the inner constituency and 7268 service voters in the outer constituency.
