No support to NPF candidate: Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN)

IMPHAL, April 7: The Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) in a press statement signed by its general secretary, Dr Gairiangmei Maringmei has once again “vehemently disowned the unqualified press statement of Poupoklung Kamei, joint secretary, Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) about the alleged endorsement of Zeliangrong Baudi to UNC’s decision to support NPF candidate Soso Lorho for the 16th Lok Sabha Election, 2014.”

The decision to support the NPF candidate is not at all the decision of Zeliangrong Baudi but an arbitrary outburst of some few vested interest individuals in clear violation of the Constitution of Zeliangrong Baudi, it said.

“It is further clarified that Zeliangrong Baudi is not a constituent of UNC as claimed and there is no reference of such kind anywhere in the Constitution of Zeliangrong Baudi,” it said and mentioned that Zeliangrong Baudi is a subordinate body of UNC. Zeliangrong Baudi is an associate member of UNC as UNC belongs to all the Naga tribes of Manipur, it claimed.

Zeliangrong Baudi may continue to maintain an alliance with UNC but it does not mean that UNC has the final say regarding all the affairs of Zeliangrong people, it lamented.

Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) is part and parcel of the unitary body of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) and that the word ‘autonomy’ is not mentioned in the Constitution of the Zeliangrong Baudi, it said before adding that even in the perceived name of “autonomy” no unit of Zeliangrong Baudi would be permitted to violate the constitution of Zeliangrong Baudi.

It is unfortunate that Thomas Kamei, president and Poupoklung Kamei, Joint Secretary, Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) did not even consult the president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), leaders of central executives and other state level executives of Zeliangrong Baudi. They hurriedly issued press statement in favour of NPF candidate for reasons best known to them, further continued the statement.

The duo manipulated proceedings of the so called consultative meetings of Tamenglong on March 25, 2014 and Tamei on March 27, 2014 have no constitutional validity and jurisdiction of authority on such sensitive political matters, the statement claimed.

It is worth mentioning a reference that independent candidate Mani Charenamei (former MP) sought electoral support with traditional token of refreshment “Tea-Treat” (in lieu of Wine Pot) at the Central Executive Meeting of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) held at Tahamzam (Senapati), Manipur dated February 8, 2014, where Raitu Chawang, president Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) told the former that such official decision was not possible in view of the Constitutional provisions of Zeliangrong Baudi.
