IMPHAL April 7: Militant suspects laid an ambush on a ROP team of 44 AR deployed for the ensuing 16th Lok Shaba election at Shingcha Village under Kamjong Police Station Ukhrul district.
According to the reliable sources the incident occurred today at around 12.45 pm when the foot patrol team of the AR team were on foot patrol in the Shingcha Village area, northeast side of Kamjong Police Station Ukhrul District.
The Assam Rifles were deployed for area dominance, ahead of the LS poll.
The team reportedly came under heavy firing from the militants and managed to retaliate.
The ensuing encounter lasted for few minutes and the militants retreated from the area, said the report.
Soon after the gunfight a massive search operation was conducted by the security personnel in and around the area, however there were no arrests. There has been no report of casualty on both sides till the filing of this report.
