Stage set for poll; 853069 voters to decide fate of 8 candidates

IMPHAL, April 16: Amidst the 12 hour’s general strike in the state, all deputed polling personnel teams and security forces for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency poll have arrived at their respective polling stations by late this evening.

The polling personnel were gathered at the respective DC complex of the four districts for their departure with EVMs and security.

Altogether 6388 polling personnel will be deputed at 1256 polling stations along with 136 companies of armed security personnel, 47 companies of unarmed personnel and 68 companies of central para-military force.

Around 854 requisition vehicles were used for the transportation of the polling personnel to their assigned polling stations.

78 polling stations have been identified as hyper sensitive, 832 polling stations as sensitive and 346 as normal.

853069 voters from four valley districts will exercise their franchise for the inner seat.

Polling will be conducted from 7am till 4pm on Thursday. Altogether eight candidates including a woman are in the fray for the seat.

The eight candidates are independent candidate Oinam Indira, Jai Maha Bharat Party candidate Oinam Jotin, Manipur People’s Democratic Front candidate G Tonsana, Aam Admi Party candidate Dr Kh Ibomcha, CPI candidate Dr M Nara, All India Trinamool Congress candidate Sarangthem Manaobi, BJP candidate Dr RK Ranjan and INC candidate Dr Th Meinya.

According to the CEO Manipur, counting of votes will be conducted on May 16 and all the process shall be completed on or before May 28, 2014.

Meanwhile, a DIPR press release has said that the polling party under ARO Porompat were dispatched from Star Sporting Ground, Sawombung ARO from Modern College and ARO Keirao Bitra from EYAC Ground.
