State fire service joins nation in paying homage to Martyrs

IMPHAL, April 15: The Manipur Fire Service Department kicked off a week long ‘Fire Service Day’ yesterday under the theme “Fire Prevention is the Best Insurance” at its head quarter, Imphal.

The inaugural function was attended by chief secretary PC Lawmkunga; Kh Chandramani, Director Manipur Fire Service department and L Nabachandra, DO Imphal Fire Service.

Marking the opening of the inaugural function, floral tributes were paid to the fireman who had sacrificed their lives, followed by a salute at the memorial Martyr’s pillar erected inside the campus MFS HQ, in memory of 66 fireman and officers of the Mumbai Fire Brigade who have sacrificed their lives while fighting a major fire in a ship “FORT STIKINE” on April 14 1944 at the Victoria Dock of Bombay.

A live demonstration of Fire Fighting, Urban Search and Rescue, Medical First Responders and Life Rescue from 32 meters Aerial Ladder Platform for the people when any calamity or fire instance occurred, conducted by personnel of the department were also displayed during the observation.

Manipur Fire Service Department also exhibited all its equipment and briefed about the uses to chief secretary PC Lawmkunga.

The CS meanwhile inaugurated a training hall and Gym for fire serviceman that was constructed under the fire service LOC fund.

Mobile phones and SIM cards were also distributed to Fire Service personnel from nine districts and sub district.

Briefing on the significance of the distributed cell phones, the MFS director divulged that this phone will help for additional assistance to the people during any emergencies.

PC Lamkungang lauding the service rendered by the Manipur Service Department, assured to approach the chief minister for upgrading the fire-fighting infrastructure in the entire districts and sub district just after the announcement of LS poll result.

Further interacting with the media persons, Kh Chandramani, expressed the need of the media to join in spreading mass awareness safety measures amongst the common people.

As a part of the observation road drive awareness campaign was also conducted covering both major parts of the Imphal East and West districts.

During the road drive awareness the fire service personnel distributed pamphlets on the safety measures at oil pumps and consumers and at crowded area of Imphal.

The road campaign was organised under the command of Kh Surchandra Singh, sub-officer and assisted by S Seileshkumar Singh, leading fireman, S Gary Singh, leading fireman, S Jiban Singh, fireman, M Romendro Singh, fireman.

During the weeklong observation, the Manipur Fire Service Department is due to organise a lecture cum demonstration programme at schools, hospitals, markets and private sector, till April 20.

In case of fire, the department requested the public to call for nearest fire station, mobile and telephone number.
