State observes Panchayati Raj Day

IMPHAL, April 24: As observed in other parts of the country, the ‘Panchayati Raj day’ was also observed today at the Lairenkabi Panchayati Ghar, Imphal West district.

The observation was organised by the Lairenkabi Kadangband Gram Panchayat of Mayang Langjing Zilla Parishad wherein Mayang Langjing ZP ward no.8 member Konthoujam Suniti Devi attended as the chief guest.

Social Worker Laishram Ibopishak alias Toto Singh attended as the function president while former Pradhan Polem Thoithoi Singh as the guest of honour. besides that, members of the ZP also attended the observation.

Speaking during the occasion, Nungleppam Boby, the Pradhan of Lairenkabi-Kadangband Gram Panchayat discontented on the failure of the authority concerned for not enabling to grant powers to the local body despite having completed two years of its five years term of 2012 Panchayat election.

There are altogether 380 members of the 24 Gram Panchayat under the Imphal West-I but the elected representative cannot bring about a substantial changes at the grass root level during this current year.

Adding to the woes, he further alleged the MLA and Minister of interfering in various schemes like IAY, MGNREGS, Old age pension, to their favour.

During the occasion the members also presented gifts to students who had scored high marks in HSLC examination for the Academic session 2013-14 and also to farmers who had produce maximum production.
