UKHRUL, April 7: Reacting strongly against a new report carried in an Imphal based local daily in its Sunday edition pertaining to the sudden transfer of Ukhrul DC Dr SK Chaurasia, Tangkhul Naga Long and other Tangkhul frontal organizations have today said that the report is `purely concocted and misleading` while demanding clarification from the concerned daily newspaper to avert creating confusion in the minds of the public.

Clarifying this at a brief media briefing at its office this evening in the presence of representatives of various Tangkhul frontal bodies, TNL president Artax A Shimray said that the Tangkhul bodies have never ever demanded transfer of the last DC and the news report was misleading.

“Consequently, we demand that this particular daily promptly clarify as to from where the news report had been gathered and come out with the fact to ward off confusion it has created among the public, ” Artax said.

It may be mentioned that the local daily had on April 6 reported that TNL and other Tangkhul bodies had earlier demanded the state government that if the DC was not transferred by April 10, intense agitation would be launched while mentioning that bodies had also charged the DC of several wrongdoings.

On the contrary, the Tangkhul bodies are protesting the arbitrary transfer of the DC, terming it as violation of the model code of conduct.

Significantly, the Tangkhul bodies had on Saturday enforced a striking total shutdown from 3 pm to 6 pm in Ukhrul town decrying the sudden development.

Meanwhile, TNL president Artax has said that the Tangkhul bodies are coordinating to ensure free and fair conduct of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency which is slated for April 9.
