Tri-colour`s first hoisting commemorated at Moirang

MOIRANG, April15: The 70th Anniversary of Flag Hoisting Day to commemorate the first hoisting of the Indian tri-colour of Free India at Moirang was held yesterday at the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex.

The programme was jointly organised by Department of Arts and Culture, Government of India and was presided over by Ph Shamu, Member of INA Advisory Committee Moirang with Dr K Sobita Devi, Director, Art and Culture, Govt. Of Manipur as chief guest, lt general Mandhata, president Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad; N Ibungochoubi, vice-president, Manipur Tourism Forum as guests of honour.

The programme started with ritual ceremony at Moirang Kangla followed by the flag hoisting of the Tri Colour Flag and floral tribute to Netaji. The programme was not only to observe and remember the 70,000 Japanese Allied Force personnel and Netaji but also to commemorate the British soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Second World War and pay respect to their families who come every year, said Dr. Sobita Devi in her speech.
