IMPHAL, May 29: The Zeliangrong Youth Front has said that citizens of Tamenglong district are severely affected due to the failure of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution to provide transport agencies/ contractors for the transportation of food grain to various destinations in the district.
According to a press release of the front, despite several attempts to meet the minister concerned for discussion, leaders of the front were refused a meeting.
It said on May 28, the leaders of the front had waited for long for a talk with the minister but was refused later.
Since there is no transporter, the agents have to pick the rice from the Imphal Godown on their own adding extra burden and responsibility to the agents, it claimed.
It continued that in order to recoup the extra transport charges, the subsidised price has been inflated to the market price, it claimed.
It further warned that the front will take up several strong agitations by not allowing any trucks to carry essential commodities to pass along the Zeliangrong areas, in case the government continue to remain silent.
