Class XII results out: Pass percentage drops from last year

IMPHAL May 13: The results of the higher secondary examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) were announced on Tuesday by COHSEM chairman Dr H Nabachandra in a simple function at its office.

The declaration of the results was also attended by COHSEM secretary Sarangjeet Khundrakpam and additional director of Education (U), R K Yaiskhul.

The pass percentage for the year is 76.89 for all the three streams combined: in the Arts stream, 74.53 percent passed the exam; 77.89 percent passed the exam in the Science stream thereby making it the stream with the highest pass percentage whereas only 67.01 percent made the grade in the commerce stream.

Speaking at the function, COHSEM secretary Sarangjeet Khundrakpam said forty-two flying squads were formed to check and control any instances of students using unfair means while appearing in the Higher Secondary Examination, adding that the flying squads routinely paid surprise visits at the various council examination centres and the private centres and took a strict vigil during the examination.

During the examination, 83 students were expelled for using unfair means and impersonation: among the 83 students thus expelled, 49 were expelled for impersonation and the remaining 34 were expelled for using unfair means, he added.

He pointed out that 5,624 candidates enrolled for the exam in the Arts stream out of which only 5,564 appeared and including both the old and new course, 4,147 candidates passed the examination thus putting the pass percentage in the Arts stream to 74.53 percent.

In the Sciences stream, out of the 16,553 candidates who enrolled for the examination 16,470 appeared. Only 12,844 passed the examination with a pass percentage of 77.89 percent.

In the Commerce stream, only 494 enrolled for the examination and 488 appeared in the examination out of which only 327 passed the exam with a pass percentage of 67.01 percent.

All together 22,522 students from all over the state appeared in the Higher Secondary Examination in all the three streams out of which only 17,318 students passed or qualified in the examination, the COHSEM secretary said.

He also stated that the pass percentage comparing to last year is low but added that comparing subject wise, the percentage is high in comparison to last year.

For those students who have not qualified in the examination, COHSEM will conduct an improvement examination before June last week so that they can take the improvement examination, said.

  1. Will those expelled students can get readmission on their each college? So that they will also know that doing unfair means is illegal and will do their best for the next exam. I think those expelled students much be given readmission,”One more chance”.
