CM assures to repair Sekmai Road; Club to decide on Bandh

IMPHAL, May 7: Assuring of repairing the approach road to the Sekmai LPG gas bottling plant within May, the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has appealed for calling off the indefinite blockade on the approach road, said Johny, secretary of the Awang Sekmai Nongthonband Youth Club (ASNYC).

According to Dhana, the ex-general secretary of the club who spoke to IFP over the phone, the Chief Minister, the club’s two representatives along with Sekmai MLA Devan, the deputy manager of the gas plant and IOC official KI Singh discussed the matter around 2:50 pm on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister assured verbally that the road will be repaired within May. He requested us to call off the blockade. In reply, the club welcomed his assurance but informed him that the blockade would be lifted only after a general body meeting of the club, he said.

He added that the general body meeting will be held on Thursday and they will announce whether blockade will be called-off or not.

Meanwhile, many public complaints were lodged against the club that due to the blockade of the road leading to the LPG plant, people are facing a shortage of refilled gas cylinders.

The club has already imposed a bandh on the approach road from last April 1 to 3, and recently from May 3 onwards, an intensified blockade on the approach road to the Sekmai LPG bottling plant is still in place till today.
