Delhi-based civil body consults people on ‘racial discrimination’

IMPHAL, May 18: Fight 4 Your Pride, a Delhi based organisation which was established in 2010 for safeguarding people of the North East arrived in the state to consult the problems faced by the NE people outside the state.

The members of the organisation held a press conference at Manipur Press Club today

Speaking at the conference, founder president Rahul Anand Singh said that the Delhi based organisation is working to eliminate racism on North East People.

“The organisation is against the ill-treatment and discrimination of Indians by Indian within the country. A national level multi state non-government organization ‘AAWAHAN’, literal meaning appeal, was formed on January 18, 2011 to spread the movement,” said the founder president.

Asserting that according to their survey more than 92 percent of NE people are victims of racism and face discrimination and are targeted mostly because of their different appearance and language, he said the organisation has been fighting for the rights of the NE people.

Our objective is to stop people from misbehaving through punitive measures or legal actions so that others will take lessons and culprits are deterred from committing more serious crimes like rape, murder etc, he said adding that Indian laws are strong and only a proper implementation is required.

He stated the aims and objectives of the organisation are to focus on the safety and security of NE girls in Delhi and many activities have been taken up in this regard.

Considering the safety of NE people in Delhi and for their safeguard after witnessing numerous incidents especially that involves women, a hostel has already been set for construction in Delhi with appropriate security, legal assistance, job and education guidance and other opportunities, he stated.

He continued that free periodic health checkups and free pick-ups and dropping services especially for females in an emergency crisis situation are available.
