IMPHAL, May 4: The Awang Sekmai Nongthonband Youth Club (ASNYC) has intensified their agitations as the government didn’t repair the approach road from the Imphal – Dimapur road leading to the Sekmai LPG bottling plant.

One of the agitators said that even though they have submitted a memorandum to the CAF & PD minister on April 26 regarding the repairing of the approach road leading to the bottling plant along the National Highway-2. There has been no positive response from the government till now.

Another agitator said that they have decided that if the government comes to negotiate on this matter, their reply will be that until and unless the road is not repaired completely no one will be allowed to take the route.

Some officials of the club told IFP: “The bandh in the form of agitation on the approach road started from May 3. There was little affect on normal life because we started on Saturday and today is Sunday but by tomorrow our agitation will be more affective.

A MoU was signed between the club and CAF & PD under secretary M Yaishkul on behalf of the concerned minister at the minister’s chamber on April 12 after a long discussion during which they were asked to wait till May 2.

The government didn’t give any formal positive response. However, they decided to wait for some appropriate action from the government in repairing the approach road till May 2.

Paragraph number 3 of the memorandum reads: “It was decided that Minister CAF & PD shall bring the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at the earliest for consideration and taking appropriate action for repairing the said approach road on or before April 19, 2014.”
