IMPHAL, May 3: Deploring the inability to make headway in the case of alleged force disappearance of Irungbam Irabanta, his wife Modhubala, today demanded the government to hand over the case of her husband to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

39 year old Irengbam Irabanta, son of I Kerani from Lamlai Nongdam Maning Leikai was a sand supplier to the Maphou Dam construction.

He has remained traceless since May 27, 2012.

Irabanta’s family alleged that he was kidnapped by the NSCN-IM.

Talking to IFP, Modhubala, said it has been two years since her husband went missing unfortunately no one has informed her whether he is still alive or dead. Even as a case was lodged, the police are still groping in the dark, she added.

She further revealed that, he left from his temporary residence located at JNIMS first gate, after being contacted by Winner Tangkhul of New Selen on the ground that the NSCN (IM) would like to talk to him about his contract works.

Irabanta left alone on his Maruti Gypsy bearing registration number MN-01K-2171.

Prior to the incident about seven days back, Irabanta also was reported to have gone to Ukhrul with regards to the building construction of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, she continued adding that during his visit he informed to have met with NSCN-IM functionaries.

She further disclosed that since the first meeting was not with top functionaries of the NSCN-IM, Winner reportedly arranged the second meeting.

It has been informed that Iranbanta stayed in Ukhrul for about four days since he left on May 27. Later he was seen leaving in his Gypsy vehicle towards Imphal driven by another person and two more seated in the back seat.

On reaching Yainganpokpi they drove into a nearby village of the area and was never seen again, she asserted.

Modhubala  also disclosed that she was threatened by miscreants in several occasion. Recalling one such incident she claimed that armed miscreants threatened her showing their guns while she was returning from Ukhurl in search of her husband. Moreover, she was often threatened over the phone.
