Manipur Militants held during search operation

IMPHAL, May 12: A combined team of CDO/Thoubal and 6 Dogra conducted a search operation at Pallel Bazaar and arrested an active cadre of PREPAK on May 11.

During the search operation, an active cadre of PREPAK identified as Md Wahidur Rahaman alias Alam, 21, son of Md Nashir Khan of Sora Karachi, Thoubal was arrested along with one G-5 mobile phone handset, it said.

A case has been registered at the Kakching Police Station and investigation is going on, said the PRO, Police Department, Manipur, Imphal.

Meanwhile, according to a press release of the PRO IGAR (S), troops of 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of the HQ IGAR (S) along with a team of Lamlai Police Station including lady police apprehended a UNLF cadre on May 11 during a vehicle check on Nongpok-Kakching to Laikoching road.

A PRO IGAR (s) press statement has identified the arrested individual as Lata, 23, daughter of (Late) Amu Yaima of Mayai Laikai Nongpok Kakching. A .32 Pistol with magazine and three live rounds along with two hand grenades were recovered from her, it said.

She was later handed over to the Porompat Police Station along with the recovered items, the statement said.

It further said that in yet another vehicle check, another UNLF cadre was arrested on May 11.

The statement said, troops of 24 AR of 26 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) conducted a check post at Tengnoupal on May 11.

The troops stopped a suspicious looking silver coloured Maruti Van with registration no: MN 01 S 2361 travelling from Moreh to Imphal which resulted in the apprehension of the UNLF cadre, it said.

The statement identified the arrested individual as Laishram Sanajaoba Singh, 22, son of Laishram Dineshwor Singh of Sekmaijing Mayai Leikai.

A 9 mm Pistol with magazine and five live rounds was recovered from his possession, it said. The apprehendee along with the recovered items had been handed over to Imphal West Police Station, it said.

Further according to the statement, the 18 Sikh of 9 sector AR under the aegis of hq IGAR (s) organised a weapon display and career counselling at Brighter Academy, Khumbong in Imphal West district on May 12.

The program was aimed to motivate the young generation in choosing the armed forces as a profession and also to streamline their career prospective, it said.
