IMPHAL, May 26: Remembering movement of the womenfolk on May 28 in 1980 against the atrocities of the security forces deployed in Manipur, the 16th Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee in press release has communicated that the “Meira Paibi Numit” will be observed on May 28 at Tharo Devi Ground, Khurai Salanthong at 11 am.
The release also said that the meira paibi movement had started during the 1980s in order to protect the people of the State specially the youths from the atrocities of the army who have been empowered with the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 and further mentioned that during the course of the movement, Sinam (o) Piyari died on May 28 in 1980.
The committee further requested the people of the state to take part in the observation, said the convenor of the committee.
