Police remand till May 12 for woman charged of staging own kidnapping

IMPHAL, May 6: Thounaujam Sunita Devi arrested on charges of staging her own kidnapping and two other co-accused were produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal West Court today.

The court remanded the three to seven days of police custody till May 12.

33 year old Thounaujam Sunita Devi and her two other accomplices were arrested from different locations Monday for orchestrating the kidnapping of herself and her seven year old son. The mother and son had reportedly gone missing since April 25. The other two accused are M Saratchandra and his wife Bimola from Uchekon Khonou.

All three along with the mobile phone used to call Sunita’s family and making a monetary demand were produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal West court. The investigating officer of the case had sought seven days police custody of the three.

Co-accused Bimola stated before CJM Imphal West RK Memcha that she and her husband have known Sunita for more than four years now.

She said her husband used to work as a mason at Sunita’s house.

Bimola, however, clarified that she had no knowledge of Sunita’s kidnapping drama.

Some days ago, Sunita came asking for shelter saying that she has left her husband’s residence due to some personal issues, Bimola said. After that the CJM Imphal West Judge, RK Memcha Devi remanded the three to seven days police custody till May 12.
