IMPHAL, May 4: Three individuals were severely assaulted by angry locals of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai accusing them of misusing a licenced gun and creating fear psychosis in the locality this afternoon.

The three have been identified as Loitongbam Ranjan Singh son of L Raghu of Heirangoithong Chingtham leikai Leirembi, Thangjam Sunil son of Th Kulabidhu of Heirangoithong and Maibam Ranbir son of M Raghu of Heirangoithong.

They had allegedly fired a licenced gun inside the residence of jemadar of the 3rd IRB, Ak Shashikumar.

They were later handed over to the Imphal West Police commando.

Sources said the three came to the locality in a grey Santro car bearing registration no MN 04-A4304 and a Hyundai Verna bearing regd no MN 04 A 7978 around 2pm and drove upto the residence of the IRB jemadar.

There was a big local feast at the club premises when gun shots were heard, informed a locals source.

Alerted by the gun-shots, the locals came out and caught the three as they were trying to flee from the scene and beaten up severely, the source said.

Later when asked by the locals, they claimed that they had come for a talk with the IRB jemadar regarding a Scorpio Vehicle pawned to him.

However, contradicting their statement, the IRB jemadar said that they had forcibly barged into his house accusing him of sending police commandos after them and as he was denying the charge, one of them suddenly pulled-out a double barrel licenced gun and fired.
