World Hypertension Day observed

IMPHAL, May 19: The SKY hospital RIMS Road today observed the World Hypertension Day at the hospital premises on May 17 last by organising a CME program on Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE), said the hospital in a press release.

Dr S Radhakrishnan, director and Head of Department of Paediatric Cardiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi and Dr L Shyamkishore, chairman and chief cardiologist SKY Group of Hospitals, Manipur were the main speakers.

Prominent delegates who attended the seminar were Professor Brajamohan, Head of Department of Paediatrics-JNIMS and Dr Apabi, assistant professor, Dr Chittor assistant professor, RIMS, Imphal.

During the seminar, the speakers spoke on the usefulness of the TEE in the accurate diagnosis of difficult and life threatening heart diseases including tumor of the heart, rupture of the heart muscle during heart attack (papillary muscle), dissection of the aorta, hole in the heart, artificial heart valve problems etc., and also the use of TEE in interventional cardiology namely in non-cooperative closure of the heart, balloon dilatation of mitral valve stenosis, it said.

Dr Shyamkishore said that the SKY Hospitals, RIMS Road is the only hospital in Manipur to have this TEE service and he further informed that patients have no need to go outside Manipur for treatment from now onward.

Since the morning of the program, a free OPD for patients with hole in the heart was organised at the hospital during 10 am to 4pm in which 37 patients availed the free OPD by Dr Radhakrishnan who was later joined by Dr Shyamkishore who gave the benefit of free Echo with which accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment advice were given to the patients said the Chief Cardiologist and Chairman of SKY Groups of Hospitals, it said.
