Awareness drive to be conducted

IMPHAL, June 4: Troops of Red Shield Division has conducted various activities at Aina, Leizangphai, Khoken, Parbung, Sinjol and Kangkap on June 4 and 5 on World Environment Day in order to educate the people about planting and nurturing and adopting scientific ways of cultivation.

As a part of the event, tree plantation, painting competition for school children and environment awareness lectures were organised by the Officers of Red shield Division. The officers described the traditional and centuries old system of Jhoom cultivation practiced in the entire North-East which is largely responsible for the Green House effect in the environment and further said that commercialisation and urbanisation in the region has resulted in mass deforestation which will have significant effect on the eco system, it said.

In order to educate the people about of planting and nurturing and adopting scientific ways of cultivation in the area, troops of Red Shield Division conducted various activities at Aina, Leizangphai, Khoken, Parbung, Sinjol and Kangkap on 4th to 5th Jun 14 on World Environment Day. Various activities organised on the occasion included tree plantation, painting competition for school children and environment awareness lectures by the Officers of Red Shield Division, said a release.
