UKHRUL, June 14: Deficiency seems to be ruling the implementation of the MGNREGA scheme in Ukhrul as the district experienced a short fall of over fifty percent in the number of working days in the previous fiscal year.

The district could achieve only 41 days of work as against the statutory maximum of 100 days in the last fiscal year 2013-14 under MGNREGS, sources from Management Information Section (MIS) MGNREGS UKhrul division has said here on Saturday.

In the year 2012-13, there was a short fall of eight working days in respect of Ukhrul as the state government failed to cough up Rs 14 crores in its share of funds in the material component (MC).

Ironically, the sources further disclosed that Ukhrul is still ranked highest with the 41 days as other hill districts of the state could not even achieve that level of working days in the particular financial year.

At the same time, officials at MIS section informed that labour wage under the scheme is all set to increase from the existing wage of Rs 153 per days with effect from April 1, 2014 .

“But the new rate of wages for Ukhrul district is not known as yet since process for the same is still on,” sources continued while adding that the same might be notified for implementation in a few days’ time.
