IMPHAL, June 7: The Society for Disable Care (SDC), Hiyangthang has planted several trees to reduce the climate change cause by global warming at Kumari High School, Hiyangthang on Saturday.

Around 28 varieties of trees were planted under the leadership of Heisnam Ashakiran who is herself differently abled and the advice of Laishram Bobby Devi, an Advisor of SDC. The tree plantation programme was jointly organised by SDC and Kumari High School Committee, Hiyangthang under the theme of Bio-diversity conservation.

Speaking at the tree plantation function at Kumari High School, SDC’s Advisor Laishram Bobby said that the disabled children also have made their contributions to reduce global warming like any other normal person.

“The children have planted trees in order to maintaining the climate change under sustainable levels. Bio-diversity and environment is important in our society which can be controlled to some extent by planting trees.”

She said that now we need to have along with our education, knowledge about safeguarding our environment, adding that without caring about the environment and understanding the climate change, any education won’t be perfect.

Hiyangthang’s former Pradhan N Apabi said that organising such types of tree plantations by children who are differently abled is encouraging.

The tree plantation is a first of its kind in Hiyangthang to spread awareness about climate change to the students and the general public, the former pradhan said.

The trees were planted by SDC but the trees must be taken care of by the Principal of Kumari High School, he added.
