Discrimination against HIV/AIDS infected children at school unlawful

IMPHAL, June 7: The Secretary of Education(s) in a press release stated that a child belonging to socially disadvantaged group including HIV affected/infected groups and child belonging to a weaker section and/or disadvantaged group shall be segregated or discriminated in the classroom, during Mid-Day Meal, in playgrounds, in the use of common drinking water and toilet facilities as per the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2010.Also, the State Government has constituted the Manipur Commissions for Protection of Child Right Act under section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Right Act 2005 and in view of RTE Rules, all the concerned District Officials dealing with RTE are instructed to ensure that no child living with or affected by HIV/AIDS be denied admission in school, expelled or discrimination in the schools under their jurisdiction said the Joint Secretary of Educations, Government of Manipur.
