Former militant shot dead

IMPHAL, June 5: A former cadre of the People United Liberation Front, Md Abdur was shot dead by unknown persons at his residence yesterday, said a police source.

According to a police source, the former militant was shot dead around 9.30pm at his Chirai Awang Leikai residence under Mayang Imphal.

Sources however, informed that Md Abdur, 35 son of Jalin of Chirai Awang Leikai was shot dead by none other than his own brother.

Police said Abdur was shot in his abdomen with a single barrel bore gun by the unknown assailant after entering his room.

Locals who were present at the RIMS morgue told the media that Abdur was a former cadre of PULF and had served his jail term under NASA after being arrested by the police a few years back.

Meanwhile, reliable sources informed that Abdur was shot by his own younger brother identified as Md Nasirkhan as the younger brother was fed up of Abdur’s menacing ways and quarrel with the family.

Sources also said that Abdur was a habitual drug user and had threatened to kill his family members during a heated argument.

It was during that course of time, his younger brother had shot him with a single barrel bored gun. He had died on the spot due to three bullet wounds in his abdomen, said the source.

The dead body has been claimed by the family members after the post mortem was conducted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences this noon.

Police have also recovered an empty case of single barrel bore bullet from the spot and taken up a case regarding the incident.
