Grenade lobbed at lecturer’s house

IMPHAL, June 7: A hand grenade exploded outside a college lecturer’s home in Nambol Chingmang Kori Leirak, under Nambol Police Station, on Saturday around 8.35 pm.

No casualties were reported but the blast shattered some portions of the residential gate.

The house owner is identified as Lairenjam Maglemba, 50 a lecturer of NG College.

Police rushed to the site and inspected the site and have taken up a case in this regard.

In an unrelated incident, a hand grenade was found this evening around 5 from the Chassad Avenue residence of additional director, Horticulture, K Kipgen by a family member.

The grenade is suspected to be placed by underground cadres.

Police later picked up the grenade around 7pm.

According to the K Kipgen son of (L) Th Kipgen, the grenade was found by a family member who was watering the flowers at the residential courtyard.

The family members then called the police, he said.

He continued the grenade could have been lobbed last night as they had heard something heavy dropped into their courtyard last night around 7.

Family members also said that there have been no personal or official related demands from any underground outfit. The family further condemned the attack on such a heavily populated area.

On the other hand police have taken up a case.
