HRD Minister to lay foundation for Manipur State University

IMPHAL, June 19: Union Minister for Human Resoures Development, Smriti Zubin Irani has accepted an invitation from the State Education minister to visit the State to lay the foundation stone of the conversion of the various DM colleges as a cluster State University.

According to a statement of the commissioner Hr & Technical Education, Manipur, the Union Minister has sought a “convenient date for the same.”

It said Okendro has thanked the Ministry of HRD for the approval for conversion of the various DM Colleges as a cluster into a State University under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) with Central government financial support, and invited the Union HRD Minister for the foundation laying function at Imphal shortly.

The approval was made under the Project Approval Board of RUSA on May 13, 2014

The State Education minster had called on the Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani in her Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi office.

“During the meeting that lasted for about 30 minutes, Education minister raised various important issues of the State pertaining to the Education sector.”

The minister highlighted that Manipur is a State which does not have industry, trade and commerce, natural resources or locational advantage and therefore the Education sector is very crucial and important to ensure that the future of the students and youths of Manipur are nurtured properly to achieve their best potentials, it said.

Okendro had also highlighted the plight of 421 Part-Time Lecturers of Govt. Colleges who had put in 16-20 years of service at very paltry emoluments and who have crossed the maximum age for recruitment and requested for a compassionate consideration on the proposal of the State Govt. for assistance under RUSA for their absorption into regular service, it said.

Further according to the statement, Okendro had also appraised the minister for consideration under RUSA of the setting up of the300-beded hostel cum counselling and career guidance centres for students of Manipur

The Union HRD Minister assured setting up of atleast two hostels for girl students from the North-East States in Delhi and also mentioned that she had deliberated the setting up of such Hostels in Delhi and Bengaluru with the Union DoNER Minister by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, it said.

“On behalf of the Governor of Manipur and the Manipur University, Education minister also invited the new Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani to grace the Foundation Day of Manipur University on October 13, 2014 marking the conversion of MU into a Central University.”

“Various issues pertaining to SSA and RMSA were also raised by Education minister, during the meeting. Project proposals with DPRs were also submitted to MHRD today for setting up five new government B Ed colleges in each of the five Hill districts of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel under central funding,” it said.

“On behalf of the government of Manipur, the minister also presented the State Emblem of “Kangla Sha” alongwith a painting to the new Union Human Resources Development Minister during the meeting.”

Education minister was accompanied by P Vaiphei, commissioner (Hr. & Tech. Edn.).
