IMPHAL, June 14: The Joint Non-government Voluntary Organisation, JNGVO has appealed to the State government to bring a solution to the prevailing boundary dispute between Thoubal and Chandel districts failing which it warned to launch a series of agitation today.
Speaking to the media at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, president Ksh Biren, pointed out that as per the existing land records and district map of Thoubal district altogether 35 villages (including the current disputed area) along the border of Thoubal and Chandel districts fall within the jurisdiction of Kakching assembly constituency.
He asserted that villagers of these villages used to exercise their voting rights under Kakching Assembly Constituency, until 20 of the villages were transferred to Tengoupal Assembly Constituency in 2004.
He questioned how the State transferred these 20 Kakching villages to Tengnoupal AC as district delimitation are yet to be conducted till 2025 for the whole country.
Meanwhile, the JNGVO president refuted allegations that bandh volunteers had destroyed properties in some villages during the 24 hour Thoubal bandh imposed by the organisation, as baseless.
He clarified that no household properties or churches were damaged except for tearing down sign boards and banner saying Chandel in the said villages.
He further maintained that the JNCVO is not against anyone or any community residing peacefully for so many years, however all such allegations of vandalism are false and fabricated, he added.
All the necessary works that needs to be executed within the area must be carried out under the administration of Thoubal district he said before drawing the government’s attention to set things right.
