IMPHAL May 4: Suspected underground militants placed a Chinese hand grenade inside the residence of Moirangthem Jayenta at Sangaiporou Mamang Leikai under Lamphel Police Station on Wednesday around 3 pm. A police team later picked up the bomb safely at around 3.30 pm.
Moirangthem Jayenta, son of Dhiren of Ningthoukhong presently staying at Sangaiporou Mamang Leikai said that he has been staying in Sangaiporou Mamang lreikai from some years by running a Boys Hostel in the area, adding that he is a teacher by profession at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School.
“At the time of the incident, I was not at my residence and I haven’t received any monetary demands from underground elements,” he said.
His nephew who was inside the house reportedly saw two unknown persons coming on a motorcycle and placing the hand grenade inside the residence before eaving the place in a hurry at around 3 pm.
Meanwhile, the hand grenade which was safely picked-up by a police team was found without a detonator. Police have registered a case against the incident.
