NYK, Thoubal observes World Environment Day

THOUBAL, June 5: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal and NSS, Thoubal College, Thoubal observed the World Environment Day at Thoubal College, Thoubal under the theme of “Raise your voice, not the sea level”.

Laksman Singh, district youth coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal and Dr O Chaoba Devi, Principal, Thoubal College, Thoubal were the chief guest and president respectively, said a press release of the NYK, Thoubal.

It said the participants planted tree saplings around the campus of the Thoubal College to mark the occasion.

Y Laksman Singh, DYC cautioned the youths about the changing situation of environment, climate change, global warming, deteriorating forest areas due to large scale cutting of trees for jhum cultivation, population influx and industrialization.

Dr. O. Chaoba Devi, Principal, Thoubal College said the Thoubal College authority will take initiative for the care, protection and growth of the tree saplings that were planted today.

Romendro Singh, NSS Programme Officer thanked the officials and all the participating youths for making the observance of the day a success in Thoubal. He says that the NSS and NYK will plant more trees in the coming months.

Further, on the initiative of the NYK Volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Imphal West a massive tree plantation programme took place at Mayang Imphal along with the Volunteers of Mayang Imphal Thongkhong Development Committee on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
