Peace building workshop at Lamka

LAMKA, June 7: The Peace Co-Ordinator, Diocesan Social Service Society has said in a press release that a peace building workshop was held today at the EAC office located at Hill Town, Lamka CCpur Manipur co-supported by DSSS and Abundant life Ministry, ALM.

The press release said delegates from 20 churches in and around CCpur district attended the workshop and resolved to make the district a better place to live in.

It said the delegates adopted 17 points to be adopted in the district.

Some of the recommendations adopted are promotion of peace, education and human rights and education in school and community, to create platform for dialogue among the diverse communities of the district, create more training and capacity building for community and church leaders, to encourage cleaner environment, making government accountable to deliver basic rights and livelihood, to encourage schools to adopt curriculum on peace and human rights and to promote oneness and brotherhood among all communities of Ccpur District.

The delegates also resolved to make the State Human Rights Commission more actively involved in addressing the human rights violation in the district, to adopt and explore non-violent means of conflict resolution; to preserve the environment by encouraging church to plant more trees and protect wildlife, it said.

Further according to the statement, other recommendations adopted include to emphasis on the holistic approach and oneness of mankind by the creator; to focus on peace with justice and integrity and to empower and organised women in the economic sector and acknowledged their role in church and society.

It also said that resource persons at the workshop include Dr L Serto of Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong, who spoke on the Universal Declaration of Human Right followed by discussion with the participant, Dr rev Hawlngam Haokip of ALM on the ‘role of church leaders in peace building and rev Fr Athanasius Mung who spoke on the preparation of strategic intervention.

The main theme of the workshop was on Peace Building using the Peace Count Approach and local narrative of Vision for Peace.
