Poor parents return to claim abandoned son

IMPHAL, JUNE 19: An eleven-days-old infant boy abandoned by his family at Raj Medicity on 7 July was handed over to the mother by Raj Medicity through the members of the child welfare committee on Thursday.

According to Dinesh, Assitant General Manager, Raj Medicity, the mother of the boy along with some members of the child welfare committee came to collect the infant. The infant’s mother was cross-checked by Medicity authorities, during which she produced the documents provided by Raj Medicity and other hospitals to prove that she had given birth to the infant. Further medical investigations by Raj Medicity’s doctors confirmed the veracity of her claim.

“After it was confirmed that the woman was indeed the mother of the infant, he was handed over to members of the child welfare committee in presence of the Police and they later handed over the infant to the mother,” Dinesh said, adding that the infant will be monitored by the child welfare committee members.

Continuing that the parents of the infant hails from Sangaiyumpham,Thoubal, he said as per the infant’s mother, the family had to abandon the infant in the hospital as they don’t have the money to pay the bill for his treatment in the hospital.

The parents of the infant left their infant child in the hospital after which infant’s father went to Tamenglong in search of money where he is engaged in construction works, he added

Parliamentary Secertary Amin Shah has paid Rupees 10,000 as the hospital bill and Raj Medicity deducted the remaining 22 thousand before handing over the infant to the mother.

It may be mentioned that the infant boy was admitted to Raj Medicity with a respiratory problem on June 6 and was abandoned by the family members on June 7.
