IMPHAL, June 19: Decrying government negligence to the prolonged deplorable road condition of the Lamlong to Khundrakpham road, residents including womenfolk led by the local clubs and meira paibi came out and blocked the road since this early morning.
The locals lamented that the State Public Works Department has failed to repair the road for long. Locals also used an excavator to dug portions of the blacktopping at three places along the road.
This early morning, a large crowd of locals came out along the road starting from Khurai Lamlong Bridge upto Salanthong and placed huge logs and other objects upon the road diverting traffic along other alternative routes.
The locals said they have submitted several requests and memoranda to the department for repairing of the road, but to no avail.
Around noon, the locals also used an excavator to dig out the black topping and dig large holes across the road at Khurai Lamlong, Khurai Lai Puthiba and Khurai Heikru Makhong.
A meira paibi leader lamented that the deplorable condition of the road has caused much inconveniences to not just the locals but to all commuters of the road.
Several have been injured in road accidents and some have even lost their lives, she said.
The locals have submitted several representations and memorandums to the concerned authorities including local MLA Ng Bijoy and ward members, however, there has been no response from the MLA as well as the concerned authorities, she said.
